Mairéad Martin takes part in the 2015 Champions Weekend
Mairéad Martin, a Transition Year student in Scoil Mhuire, took part in Champions Weekend held at Portmarnock Golf Club from October 23rd to 25th. The 2015 event was hosted by the Darren Clarke Foundation and all the invited participants, including Mairéad, are champions having won provincial or national tournaments at their respective levels.
Darren, who will captain the next European Ryder Cup Team, focused on the participants’ achievements to date, their goals, their ambitions and the steps they are taking to achieve their golfing ambitions. Mairéad enjoyed clinics, question and answer sessions as well as watching a little rugby on TV with Darren. The highlight of a wonderful weekend was the playing of a few holes of golf with Darren, which Mairéad completed in a very impressive one under par.

The special guest for the occasion was Dr. Marie Griffin CEO of CEIST.
Addressing the award recipients, the student body, school staff and guests, Dr. Griffin said it was both an honour and a pleasure to be invited to speak at and present the Scoil Mhuire awards. She congratulated all the winners who have contributed in some remarkable way in their chosen award category. She said ‘This is our way of publicly acknowledging this contribution, of saying that while we are proud of all of our students, you earn a particular accolade. Success does not come easily, but demonstrates what can be achieved by effort, determination and self-belief’. Ms Downey thanked all the musicians, singers and performers under the guidance of Mrs. Farrell for the afternoon’s entertainment, special guest Dr. Marie Griffin, MC Mr. Keating and Mr. O’Keeffe and Ms McNamara for reading the citations.
